Janna Z. Goldberg, Ph.D.

trained mixed methods researcher, Dr. Janna Goldberg is excited to bring her demographic and social science research background to the Age Wave team. For more than a decade, Janna has been deeply involved in demographic research and analysis, specifically as it relates to changes over the life course, family formation, housing demography, and the transition to adulthood. As a member of the Survey Research Group at the RAND Corporation for more than six years, she investigated a wide variety of social and health related issues, including research and analysis for several Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) funded studies.
Janna is an active member of the premier professional organization of demographers, the Population Association of America, and has been a keynote speaker at a number of conferences and association meetings. She has worked on and won research grants from the League of Women Voters, The Center for American Progress, The Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California, and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In addition, she was awarded a fellowship from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California.
Janna holds a Ph.D. in urban development and demography from the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California, a master’s degree in international relations from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, a certificate in global health with a focus on aging from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a bachelor’s degree in political science and art history from the University of California, San Diego.
In addition to her U.S. based research, Janna has lived in Spain, where she conducted demographic research on the impact of falling fertility rates coupled with rising growth rates of older adults in Spain and Mexico. Janna loves to travel, is an art lover and avid reader. As a relative newcomer to Northern California, she enjoys exploring the Bay Area with her husband.
